Biography
Born in a city and raised in a village, duality is kind of Taylor Sterling's thing. Blending the vintage with the futuristic, the masculine with the feminine, the brutal with the gentle, and the comedic with the tragic, the limitations and expectations of popular music have become rules to be broken for this newcomer to the Manchester music scene. Sterling's lifelong interest in alternative and avant garde music has inspired them to develop a unique musical style, combining elements of a wide variety of genres and influences from the past, present and future.
A music fan since early childhood, Taylor's early experiments with original music lead them to start collaborating with local artists and bands. Initially a vocalist and songwriter for alternative rock bands Out of the Ashes, Hang Fire, Count Comet and Noise Bath, Taylor then went on to begin a solo career self producing alternative pop music in a variety of styles for themselves and other underground artists. Their debut solo album 'Everything's Happening' will be released in December 2024, a culmination of almost a decade of songwriting, experimentation and growth.
Sterling's visual style currently takes inspiration from surrealist artworks, liminal space, pop art, quality degradation, drag, and horror media. Juxtaposition and surrealism are key elements in the visual presentation of their releases so far, taking on a dreamlike and hazy quality.
